Ronnie Liu: 7 bulan berkuasa, RM600,000 habis? hebat mamat ni.

Selcat to grill Ronnie Liu

By SIRA HABIBU

SHAH ALAM: Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu is expected to be grilled by the state Select Committee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) for finishing the entire allocation of RM600,000 for his Pandamaran constituency within seven months.

He has also used up about RM800,000 of the RM1mil allocated for Sungai Pelek and Sungai Panjang constituencies which are under his care.

Liu believed that the committee had called him to a public hearing because of the excessive expenditures.

“All the claims filed are justifiable as Klang is full of active associations and NGOs and there are many schools in the constituencies,” he said, stressing that none of the funds were channelled directly into his personal account.

Liu said he had used up all the allocation for Pandamaran because there were too many requests from various bodies.

The committee has called Liu to a public hearing on the 2008 and 2009 constituency allocations.

Liu is expected to take the stand either today or Monday.

Liu said he had furnished the committee with details of programmes and minor projects carried out in the three constituencies.

Meanwhile, state Speaker Teng Chang Khim who heads Selcat ticked Liu off for jumping the gun.

“Like all other witnesses, Ronnie also has no idea what we are going to ask.

“We have analysed the data provided by Ronnie, and we have identified areas where explanation is needed,” he said.

Teng also clarified that Selcat was not out to look for faults.

“We are calling all the nine district officers to have a clearer picture on how applications for constituencies’ funds are processed.

“We are also expecting district officers, NGOs and interested individuals to help us find ways to plug loopholes in its management,” he said.

He claimed that after listening to statements by four district officers so far, the committee concluded that former Barisan Nasional elected representatives had abused the funds for their respective constituencies for election purposes.

Asked if Selcat would lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over the finding, Teng said that was not his job; adding that it was up to the relevant agencies to take actions against discrepancies uncovered by the committee.

“They are welcomed to listen to the proceedings live via webcam,” he said.

Siapa tahu. Yang pasti, Ronnie Liu sekarang dalam kepanasan.
